Teresa Pratt is a linguist with Stanford University. She stopped by to chat about the accents, dialects, speech rates, and pronunciations of Californians. Teresa is a Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University and has been recording Californians for The Voices of California Project. Teresa shares how she got into dialects and linguistics by way of wanting to work on Broadway, dealing with idiots who hit on her by calling her a “cunning linguist”, “uptalk”, and how if you’re moving to the Northwest, you better start pronouncing soft “A”s as soft “E”s.
If you’re interested in participating in the study, be sure to go to The Voices of California Project website.
